Teaching Statement
My Teaching Philosophy
I am a fourth-year doctoral candidate in cognitive neuroscience, specializing in social decision-making processes. My research and teaching are unified by commitments to equity, student-centered learning, scientific literacy, and mentorship. Through diverse roles—teaching assistant, discussion section leader, guest lecturer, and research mentor—I have developed a pedagogical approach that bridges rigorous neuroscience training with accessible, inclusive education. My teaching experience spans undergraduate and graduate environments. As a TA for Biological Bases of Behavior, Introduction to Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental Psychology, and Quantitative Research Methods, I designed original materials, led multiple discussion sections, delivered interactive guest lectures, and provided comprehensive feedback on assessments. These roles taught me to adapt complex concepts for varied student backgrounds while maintaining academic rigor. In research settings, I mentored graduate students through CNRI, co-leading research ethics lectures and serving as both primary and secondary mentor. Through the DUNE program, I delivered specialized EEG methodology lectures, translating technical neuroimaging concepts into accessible learning experiences. My teaching philosophy centers on active learning and creating inclusive environments where all students feel empowered to engage with challenging material. I believe effective education requires breaking down sophisticated neuroscientific concepts while preserving intellectual depth, fostering critical thinking through hands-on activities, and building supportive communities where students take intellectual risks. By connecting research practices to classroom learning and providing personalized mentorship, I prepare students not just to understand cognitive neuroscience, but to become thoughtful scientists and informed citizens capable of critically evaluating scientific claims in our increasingly complex world. I am dedicated to creating inclusive learning environments where students feel supported in taking intellectual risks. Through comprehensive feedback on exams and assignments, I help students identify strengths and areas for growth. My pedagogical training and hands-on experience have prepared me to inspire the next generation of scholars while fostering their critical thinking and analytical skills..
